About Us
With a passion for sustainable food, wood-fired ovens, and midcoast Maine, I am proud to bring you The Uproot Pie Company & Carriage House.
A Culinary Journey Rooted in Passion
After graduating from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR, in 2004 I spent the early years of my career baking in wood-fired ovens—from small towns in North Carolina to the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon. In Flat Rock, NC I set up in an old chicken shack behind a wood-fired bakery where I spent countless hours learning from the talented owner/baker Scott Unfried. As the bakery expanded into a restaurant I shifted my focus to pastry, creating the dessert menu for West First, a wood-fired restaurant.
Learning & Growing in Portland
A year and a half later I traveled back to Portland, OR, and connected with a mobile wood-fired pizza vendor Mark Doxteder of Tastebud where I learned you can put just about anything in a wood-fired oven. I was hired as a full-time bagel, pizza, and pita baker for many of the farmer's markets around Portland. Inspired by Mark's approach of bringing ingredients straight back to the kitchen from the market, I knew I had found a way to share food with the community that really resonated with me.

Returning Home to Midcoast Maine
After my time in Portland, I returned to midcoast Maine, where I was raised by the sea. Heading into my third summer in the Rockland area, I decided to take matters into my own hands. With the creative talents of local artist and sculptor Andy White, I built a mobile wood-fired oven to bring artisan pizzas to summer markets, catering events, and local festivals.
A Permanent Home at The Carriage House
The Uproot Pie Co.’s impact on the community during the summer months left me yearning for more—especially in the off-season. In 2016, I found my perfect spot: an 1850s carriage house in Thomaston. After three years of renovations, and many life lessons along the way, I opened the doors to a permanent home for the business. Now, with a team of incredible women who I am honored to call friends and co-workers, The Uproot Pie Company & Carriage House have become businesses I am deeply proud of. My commitment to fostering a sense of community and creating a space that is warm, inclusive, and inviting is something I hold close to my heart. I hope that this dedication will be my legacy.
